Itinerary
Day 1 : Welcome to Sri Lanka
Students will touch down in Sri Lanka, where they’ll be greeted by their tourLeader waving the TLA flag. After a warm welcome, the group will transfer to their accommodation and take part in a trip briefing.
Galle : The afternoon takes students on a guided walking tour of the historic Galle Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to 1588. Led by a local expert, the tour brings to life the fort’s fascinating blend of colonial, cultural, and architectural heritage, as students explore its winding streets, ramparts, and coastal views.
The first day finishes with a welcome meal, giving students a chance to relax, reflect on their first impressions, and prepare for the adventures still to come.
Day 2 : Galle - Surfing & Guided Bike Ride
The morning unfolds with an active start as students head to the beach for a group surfing lesson led by qualified instructors. With surfboards provided, it’s a chance to try the sport for the first time or build on existing skills. Those preferring a slower pace can relax on the sand, swim, or snorkel in the clear waters, enjoying Sri Lanka’s vibrant coastline.
In the afternoon, the adventure continues with a guided bike ride through the lush paddy fields and quiet village lanes of Galle. Along the way, students will discover the beauty of rural Sri Lanka, stopping at a tropical coconut garden to refresh with cool, sweet coconut water while learning more about the role of agriculture in local life.
The day winds down with a taste of Sri Lanka’s rich culinary traditions at dinner, offering students the chance to enjoy a local meal together before resting for the days ahead.
Day 3 : Udawalawe - Jeep Safari & Elephant Transit Home
Today’s adventure takes students deep into the wild with a near full-day Jeep Safari at Udawalawe National Park. Famous for its free-roaming herds of Asian elephants, the park also provides opportunities to spot water buffalo, deer, wild boar, jackals, and an array of smaller mammals and birdlife.
In the afternoon, the group will visit the Elephant Transit Home (ETH), where orphaned elephant calves are rehabilitated before being released back into their natural habitat. Students will gain insight into the importance of conservation efforts and the challenges of protecting one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic species.
In the evening, students will enjoy a local culinary experience, giving them the chance to share stories from the day over a traditional meal before unwinding in preparation for tomorrow’s activities.
Day 4 : Visit to Kanneliya Rain Forest
Students will set out on a guided hike through the stunning Kanneliya Rain Forest, one of Sri Lanka’s most remarkable natural reserves. This UNESCO-recognized biosphere is home to an incredible array of flora and fauna, offering the chance to experience the sights and sounds of a pristine tropical ecosystem up close. The walk provides both adventure and discovery, as students learn about the importance of biodiversity and rainforest conservation.
Day 5 : Kayaking & Tea Factory
The day begins with an exciting kayaking adventure on Rathgama Lake, a serene setting rich with diverse flora and fauna. As students paddle in pairs across the calm waters, they’ll encounter vibrant birdlife and gain a firsthand appreciation of the region’s delicate ecosystem.
In the afternoon, the group will head to the Handungoda Tea Factory to experience the art of low-grown tea. An informative guided tour reveals the processes behind cultivation and production, followed by the chance to sample a variety of teas straight from the source.
The day ends with a relaxed dinner.
Day 6 : Temple Visits & Sea Turtle Rescue Centre
The morning is dedicated to exploring one of Sri Lanka’s revered temples, offering students the chance to deepen their understanding of local religion and culture. By observing prayer rituals and joining the community in quiet reflection, students gain insight into the spiritual traditions that remain central to daily life.
In the afternoon, the focus shifts to conservation with a meaningful visit to a sea turtle rescue centre. Here, students learn about the different turtle species, their role in the marine ecosystem, and the urgent need for protection. Through hands-on activities – feeding turtles, assisting with rehabilitation, and caring for injured animals – students actively contribute to vital conservation efforts.
Day 7 : Farewell to Sri Lanka
In the morning it’s time for students to head back to the airport for their flight home.
